My inclination is to separate the calendar month into roughly two parts: a first half of the month that will be highly challenging, with circumstances and our reactions making it difficult to discern our own stance or best moves, and a latter half that promises much more openness and directness, but is plagued by some ruthless, even forceful action and the expression of some ‘me first’ values. The end of the month brings Mars square the North Node on the 26th, then a New Moon in Scorpio (the 28th at 4:15 PM PDT at 5 Scorpio 54), followed by a Mars sextile to Saturn–this suggests we’ll be down to brass tacks at all levels, and some will go farther, right into the mud; from what I’ve seen of November, there’s no end in sight, though the bark of some may be worse than their bite.
But back to early October. The month starts with Mercury’s trine to Neptune, quincunx to Uranus, and Mars’s sextile to Pluto; add to this the retrograde status of Mercury, Venus in Scorpio, and the Jupiter/ Saturn trine (with Chiron in the mix quincunx Saturn), and we have a recipe for sudden switch-ups, the promulgation of illusion, aggressive forwarding of Self-interest to the point of destroying anything that gets in the way (and likely doing it with Self-justifying efficiency, almost kindness!) Values may be compromised in service of getting one’s way–not a pretty picture, and in the moment it will seem like a much better idea than it really is.
The second week of October Mars moves into Scorpio and the Sun squares Jupiter and quincunxes Uranus, bringing a real pressure to bear on expansion attempts; we may be surprised by the unexpected difficulties that crop up when we try to make our horizons bigger, to educate ourselves, or when we attempt to reach out to others, and we may feel that it’s our right to meet our goals, rather than an option. Coming at the same time as the Inferior Conjunction, we may be planting the seeds of some serious unrest or change, probably revealed post-direction of Mercury with the Sun’s sextile to Pluto (the 22nd). The Sun also trines Chiron at this time, showing wounds, weak points, and shining a bright light on unique strengths and skills; believe what you see, and use what you know.
Mid-month we see the Sun quincunx Uranus and trine Neptune, perhaps illuminating for the first time (or at least, the first time clearly) what truly transpired earlier in the month. Mercury goes Direct (the 15th at 1:01 PM PDT at 7 Libra 37) and we want to jump into action right away (semi-sextile to Mars); instead we might do well to temper our urges with a little Self-interested caution. With a Full Moon culminating the 14th at 1:04 PM PDT at 21 Aries 51, we should be wrapping up what we’ve learned about our own assertive urges over recent days; anyone seeking to impose their own ideas of where we should aggress and what we should charge forward on needs to be given a wide berth; this is the correct time for a sense of Self-interested centeredness, just as long as our energy is concentrated on controlling ourselves, rather than others. Late in this period Venus enters Sagittarius (the 18th at 11:32 AM PDT) and we are not quite so interested in digging deep, in vengeance, or in instituting change or re-awakening, particularly in relationships; instead we may consider hitting the open road, literally or figuratively, in search of a ‘new’ set of values, income sources, or collaborative allies. This may or may not be a solution, but is unlikely to satisfy, as we’ll still have a large amount of energy stubbornly invested in change of what is, rather than in seeking out the new (Mars in Scorpio, Sun sextile Pluto) and in creating solid accomplishment (which of course takes time and effort to build–Jupiter in Cap, Saturn in Virgo). Awareness of the discrepancies likely in our attention will help us lighten up, and make reconciliation of what may be at cross purposes that much easier.
Once the Sun enters Scorpio (the 22nd at 6:10 PM PDT) we may begin to feel the month’s events sting in earnest; it’s a live and learn situation, with those who’ve behaved most consciously receiving the fewest nasty surprises, and quite possibly uncovering startlingly useful information and founts of personal power. As mentioned previously, the nitty-gritty surfaces late in October, with a real test of values and relationship and asset resources with Venus’s sextile to the North Node; we can’t help but ask ourselves whether our actions are creating what really matters, and whether we are indeed heading toward it; conduct yourself this month so that, by All Hallow’s Eve, you can answer with a resounding, “Yes!”

Stumble It!
Dear Julie,
I appreciate your thoughtful navigation guiding me through October. I am hopeful that the influences of Mars, Sun, Pluto, and Scorpio at the end of the month will act to uncover and eliminate “what is” in preparation for something new to become.
In homage to the influence of Libra I want to compliment your aesthetic choices for your blog resounding a graceful elegance.
Warmly
Lauren
