July 13th-19th: It’s All About Mercury

Mercury keeps us awake and alert this week

Mercury keeps us awake and alert this week

The week starts with our hero, the fleet-footed god of communication, Mercury, gearing up to, if not dominate the next 7 days, then to make more than his share of contacts and garner a lot of attention in the process. The Superior Conjunction of Mercury with the Sun is exact at 7:14 PM PDT and this offers a culmination of something begun with the Inferior Conjunction during Merc’s retrograde contact to the Sun. If the results are on the subtle side, you may need to go back and review events surrounding that point, and look for threads connecting then and now; often the result brought forward at the Superior Conjunction springs from something that got its start at the Inferior meeting but about which you weren’t especially aware at the time.

Also big on Monday, the Moon moves into Aries morning PDT and conjuncts Juno; we start off the day (at least on the Pacific coast of the US) raring to go, and not at all shy about asking for what we want (and need); this also squares Pluto, and temper when frustrated, or the willingness to destroy something rather than hand it over, could arise. Discipline and a reasonable attitude are the order of the day, since without them we may exert the ego with too much reference to the past, and too much inclination to lash out (a Finger of God formed by Mars apex quincunx Pluto and the South Node).

Most interesting of all is the Mystic Rectangle formed by Ceres in Virgo, the Sun and Mercury in Cancer, Uranus in Pisces, and the Earth in Capricorn, and all bodies are at 21 degrees except for Uranus at 26. It’s important to note that the perfect harmony of Mother Nature/ authority, the Self, the communication urge, and the material surroundings is only endowed with the elevated energy of the Mystic Rectangle by the presence of Uranus, and this may be our clue that we, too, can exploit the highly co-operative nature of the above listed energies at the present by employing our most unique skills and knowledge, in being innovative and unafraid in our approach, in embracing the new, especially in terms of what we can learn, and what modern technologies can make accessible.

The 14th Mercury moves into quincunx with Chiron, Jupiter, and Neptune. For many this may bring revelations, ideas, knowledge to the surface concerning the role these three have been playing in the individual life, and may offer immense relief: finally we can articulate the changes, the hurt, the illusions, and the ideals this trio has brought about, and in being able to form concepts around our experiences we’ll finally be able to perceive and handle them in a fully conscious way.

On the 15th the Moon moves into Taurus, trines Pluto, and sits at the midpoint of Juno and Mars. We become concerned about what we have, who has power over our things, and what we can do about it. We also see Mercury trine Uranus in Water–here we may be visited by spontaneous emotional revelation–believe what’s revealed.

The 16th we see the Ceres opposition to Uranus come to the fore as Ceres quincunxes Chiron (but is just out of orb to the others in the trio). Authority may not support our individual expression, or may object to the group with which we associate (and may try to control us through hurt)–a scant few who aren’t threatened by an empowered individual will aid us in highly unique and original exercise of skills. This isn’t a transit we can plan for, exactly, but it is one we can be ready for when circumstances and the moment converge and offer real opportunity.

Also the 16th the Moon trines Saturn, bringing the emotions into line with reality. Acceptance of ‘what is’ can come more easily at this time–and for those looking to improve their lives, knowing where they are makes mapping out the route to their goal that much more easily accomplished.

MercuryOh Mercury, you don’t sit still for a moment! By the 17th Merc is into Leo, conjunct the South Node, trine Juno, and quincunx Pluto. We feel mentally strong, ready to face change, but reliance on the past to judge the future may be overdone. Venus is within square of Saturn, and we may feel the first hints that love or money may be temporarily restricted, or for some, may manifest in very solid form. Venus is also sesquiquadrate the North Node, implying we’re getting a glimpse of our future now.

The 17th also brings a Finger of God apex Chiron, Jupiter, and Neptune, with quincunxes to Ceres and the Sun. Those who would be their own authority must deal with old hurt, the need to bring forward Chirotic skills, the social sphere, and the propensity for delusion, illusion, creativity, and to test ideals. A tough but rewarding challenge, for those who take it on.

Also on the 17th, Vesta is sesquiquadrate Chiron (soon to add Jupiter and Neptune)–in this instance, we may need to choose sides–will we take refuge in our own hurt feelings, or will we put what we hold sacred first, before our own interests? The mature among us will take this chance to do honor to those things we truly respect, rather than keeping the dynamic on our own perceptions and feelings. With the Moon in Gemini, we get the chance to talk (or at least think) it all through.

On the 18th Venus and the Moon are sesquiquadrate the North Node; emotions, love, and possibly money seem all-important and are threatened in some way by what we perceive as our future path. This gives us a chance to see how and where we might like to change our approach to goals and the future. Adjustments can be made, in order to preserve what we value.

By the 19th Mercury is in sextile to Mars, and we speak up, and perhaps act out. It’s a ‘clear the air’ day, and if we approach this energy with a positive attitude, we’ll reach the end of it with a feeling that much was accomplished (or at least talked about and shared!)

Enjoy your week!

    Hi,
What do you call “Earth” making a rectangle in capricorn please ? Is it lilith ?
    Thanks

    Hi,

I actually use Earth in the chart–it’s not a substitute for anything else. Earth is always located directly opposite the Sun in the flat chart, and in my view represents the material surroundings we need to realize our Soul (Sun) Purpose. Thanks for stopping by, xglop!

Fantastic analysis, Julie! And i didn’t know your interpretation of Earth in a chart – thanks for the excellent info – including that of my busy little chart-ruler Mercury. Jude

Thank you, Jude! And you’re welcome! I don’t know about anybody else, but I always like Merc best when he’s zipping along. Thanks for the visit! jd

mercury amazing, so fast, he bursts into the room and delivers
    his message then ffft- gone!

rarely seen because so close to sun, you won’t see him in sky
    for long…

Interesting they say he has the weakness of trying too hard
    sometimes also..

Hi william! Don’t know why you equate Merc with “trying too hard”–somehow I see his quickness as the opposite, because he doesn’t linger to put a lot of effort in any one direction–but it certainly is like getting zinged by the message fairy when he comes along–maybe that’s why Uranus is said to be a higher octave of Merc, which uses lightining bolts instead of Mercury’s wee electric shocks!

Great post. There seems to be alot of focus on resources lately. Urabus definitely brings shocks! I’ve had a few of mune, and Sturn is doing a number on me too. I go from feeling drained, to wired pretty much all day!

Oh my, I’ve just had a huge revelation about the upcoming eclipse, which will be in my fourth house — one of those realizations about my life that seems so simple and obvious and yet has been eluding me forever. Can’t wait to read what you have to say about it.

  • 8. Lainie  |  July 15, 2009 at 8:18 pm

. . . what you have to say about the eclipse, I mean!

Nice save! I’ll get to the upcoming eclipse material ASAP–Thanks, Lainie!
